Big Horn County Weed and Pest Control District
Bounty Hunter Program
The District is offering a $100.00 cash reward to anyone who finds a new infestation of ventanata or medusahead grass within Big Horn County. Currently, there are no known infestations in Big Horn County. Medusahead and ventanata are a major threat to local ecosystems. These invasive annual grasses are unpalatable to livestock and wildlife due to their high silica content. It is estimated that the forage production of grasslands infested with medusahead/ventanata can be reduced by 50-80%. The shallow root systems of these grasses also create conditions that favor soil erosion and rangeland degradation. Please report any suspected ventatata/medusahead infestations to the District immediately.
